COFORD Workshop: Chemicals in the Nursery Sector

In September 2007 COFORD established a Forest Nursery Research Group to establish the future research needs and priorities of the sector. The group completed its work in early 2008, and identified a number of priorities, the highest of which was the need to address concern about the possible future role and use of most chemicals. Insecticides, fungicides and herbicides are considered the most important; however, others such as soil sterilants are also very important. Considering the important role chemicals play in the production of hardy nursery stock, their future role and use is of key importance. To address these issues COFORD is holding a workshop at the Mount Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, Co Carlow, on Wednesday 2 July 2008. This programme is directed at the nursery sector and other sectors of forestry where chemicals are used.
